During their Thanksgiving break, a group of BVHS juniors and seniors teamed up with Mr. and Mrs. Fristch, volunteering to help the town set up the annual community Christmas card displays along Route 24. We are grateful for their willingness to serve the community!

BVHS Thanksgiving Feast!

This time last week, Avery-Parsons 5th grade students were collaborating while taking on a STEM challenge to build a turkey. They had to determine importance, ask questions, and create a plan to execute the challenge. 🦃

In Mr. Bennetts’ Woods class, students collaborate to make a group cabinet. Each member of the class has a different job, but all are working together with the same end goal: a cabinet to store items in for their Shops class. Swipe to see their progress a few days later!

Here’s a glimpse of students in one of Ms. Bott’s band classes learning drums! While Ms. Bott works with a student on the drum, other students keep the beat with their own drum sticks. Being collaborative includes building positive and productive relationships based on trust and mutual respect.

In BV schools, collaborative involves communicating in ways that uphold team relationships, confidence, and outcomes.
Students Ms. Stevens’ class read the short story “The Game of Silence”, by Louise Erdrich, and then collaborated silently on a puzzle to deepen their comprehension of the themes in the story.

7th and 8th grade Spanish students in Mrs. Hankins' classes collaborated this week to host a school event celebrating Día de los Muertos, the Mexican holiday honoring deceased family members.
The event included food, face painting, a sugar skull station, and a presentation of the history of the holiday given by the students.

Being collaborative involves facilitating cooperative processes to make decisions, negotiate conflicts, and achieve quality work/outcomes. That skill came into play recently in Mr. Perrin’s Civics class as students learned about how government works at the state vs. federal level. They studied how representatives of each state seek individuals’ recommendations and then meet together as a group to decide what works best for the entire US.
The students had to create a party as a small group (state level), and then one representative from each state met to debate for their ideas on the federal level.

Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you to all the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces.
Earlier this week, third grade students prepared for their Veteran's Day celebration by working together in Enrichment to make poppies to give veterans. Check out the Avery Parsons social media account (@avery_parsons_elementary) for photos of the celebration!

This month, our focus “C” is Collaborative. We define collaborative as “working together for the greater good, drawing on each team members’ individual strengths to a shared vision and outcome.”
Throughout the rest of November, we will be highlighting examples of students being collaborative in BV schools, and we would love to hear from you, too! Where do you see collaboration happening in other life contexts?
